Just in case anybody is interested, Deutsche Bahn do offer a summer special called "Detschland Pass". The ticket is sold from June 30th until August 31st and is good for unlimited travel on any ICE-, IC-/EC- and Regional trains within Germany for one month. Only night trains and ICE-sprinter require a surcharge. Prices depend on age and start @ 149 EUR for under 18, adults > 27 y/o pay 309 Euro in Second class, 409 EUR in First. Children 6 to 14 are free, if accomanid by parents or grandparents and preannounced at time of bookink. Children under 6 are free anyway.

Last day of vaildity is September 15th, so any Deutschland-Pass bought after August 16th loses some of its validity period. Tickets can be bought online (credit card required) or at any germany railway ticket counter.

Thank you for the post. We are planning to be in Germany for 12 days in late July.
Since we are flying in from the US we found that we could not get the pass mailed to us in time. From your post it appears that we can easily buy this pass in any train station? Is that right?
We will land in Frankfurt so I suspect we could go to the Flughafen in FRA airport and get this pass? Also would a 13 year old child with two paying adults pass be free based on what I am reading online?
Does DB rail accept VISA/MC on the counter in any train station?
Danke Schoen
Dave

Yes, you can.

You can buy the Deutschland-Pass at any place, which sells Deutsche Bahn tickets. Since the Deutschland-Pass does not sell out, there is no disadvantage for just-in-time-buyers (except for maybe some queueing). There are Railway counters at Frankfort Airport, at both railway stations. There is a regional train station (Regionalbahnhof) in the basement of terminal 1 for commuter trains to Frankfurt city centre, to Mainz, Wiesbaden and so on, and a station for all highspeed and long distance trains (Flughafen Fernbahnhof). Both stations have staffed counters. As flights from the US usually come in in the mornings until noon, they should be staffed, too. VISA should not be a problem. Do not forget to register your child when buying the Pass, it is free then, correct.

Enjoy your stay.

Appreciate the quick reply. Now it is simply a matter of figuring out the best options in terms of an optimized travel plan for the time we are there. Any pointers on must see/experience (not often mentioned type but free or relatively modest fee based event/food/sites) in either - Cologne, Hamburg, FRA, Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Stuttgart?
That is going to be lot of moving around but figure the trains will make it easy. My assumption is that there is a very frequent service between a large hub and nearby regions? Do trains run till late at night and early in the AM?
