Hello, I am planning on visiting Berlin for 5-6 days in November 2013 and would like a bit of advice on which are the best hostels to stay in.

Quick bit of info about myself, 25 year male from England, will be travelling by myself. Looking to meet people, see the historical sites during the days then head out in the evenings to enjoy the renowned nightlife Berlin has to offer.

Which are the best hostels with their own bars? I would be interested in joining on walking tours, museum visits, tickets for Hertha Berlin football club.

I see the hostels are spread throughout the city, where's best to be? In terms of seeing historical sites/ nightlife?

Any information would be much appreciated, thanks.

I stayed in Circus Hostel which is in Mitte, it's so close to everything, I walked everywhere most of the time (there's a station right next to it though) and that was last October and I didn't find it cold at all! Plus Berlin is really good too, it's right in where the good nightlife is and literally a minute walk from the East Side Gallery, it's a bit further away from some of the more main attractions but you're literally acros the street from a metro station so that helps a lot!

Circus hostel does free walking tours either half day or full day, I did the full day and really recommend it! It helps get your bearings in the city than what interests you can go back and revisit. They do a really good job describing everything to you and piecing the history of Berlin together!

Any other questions ask away, it's my favourite city in the world!

For hostels, I can recommend Wombat City Hostel. They have a rooftop bar & common spaces to meet other travellers. A 10 min walk to Alexanderplatz, U-bahn station across the street to get to other places in the city, and walking distance to lots of restaurants. www.wombats-hostels.com/berlin/

For walking tours, I'd recommend The Original Berlin Walks. They offer a variety of tours, but the "Discover Berlin" one is great at covering all the main sights in the city. Very informative. www.berlinwalks.de/public/index/index/secnav/1

I found Berlin's attractions to be spread out and ended up using public transit a lot to get to different neighbourhoods for walking around/exploring.

Good luck with the planning and enjoy Berlin - it's a wonderful city!

Heart of Gold Hostel has a lot going for it in terms of your criteria - good bar, walking tours that start from there, right in the middle of the city within walking distance of museums/sites and just around the corner from Oranienburger Tor/Alexander Platz nightlife area......

Thanks for all the great advice, its been a great help and just can't wait to go now.
Last quick question, will the hostels still be busy November time, will I need to book ahead?

It is the off season,so >i'd say no..not necessary to book.Particularly if you are looking for a dorm bed rather than a room.

The very popular places (eg #1 on Tripadvisor etc) might still fill up,even in November...you can look at hostelworld.com for an idea of what is still available for when you want to go..
