Hello All

I am going to berlin for a couple of days next week, wednesday and thursday, and am wondering about where in the city i should head to from the Tegel airport when i land, in order to find cheap dorm style hostel accomidation. I wasn't planning on booking cause my credit card is running short right now, so i prefer to show up and pay cash instead. Any suggestions on where to head to and how to get there would be greatly appreciated.

Also any must see's within the area, for free preferrable, again due to the low fund situation, (just coming out of a year and half trip through africa, couple days in berlin and amsterdam, before i head back to the states from frankfurt)

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Be well
Zac

P.S. I do have a berlin city map. Okay Thanks!

here are some sites of low-coast departing from Italy:

Ryanair
Easyjet

There are hostels all over the place. Anyway, as you have low funds it's best to stay in Mitte as you will have most of the sights in walking distance ... more or less. Berlin is a fairly widespread city therefore you might not get around using public transport. Anyway, Berlin is compared to other capital cities fairly cheap.

Downside on Mitte is that it is quite a posh area and prices for hostels, bars and restaurant can be a bit higher than in other areas of Berlin. In Mitte you'll find for example the following hostels

St. Christophers, Rosa-Luxemburg-STr. 39-41
Citystay Mitte in Berlin, Rosenstrasse 16
Pegasus Hostel in Berlin, Strasse der Pariser Kommune 35
A&O Hostel & Hotel Mitte, Köpenicker Str. 127 - 129
Green Eggs and Ham in Berlin, Novalis Straße 2
Helter Skelter Hostel in Berlin, Kalkscheunenstr. 4-5
Baxpax Downtown Hostel/Hotel, Ziegelstr. 28
Mittes Backpacker Hostel, Chausseestrasse 102

As they are all not neccessarily next to each other it is difficult to advise on how to get there. It's probably best to take the bus X9 or 109 to the Zoo station and from there take the S-Bahn or the underground ... depending on which hostel you want to try first.
