Thank you all - I think we will start our European visit in Germany in Mid to late June.

Berlin has moderate hotel prices compared to other western European capitals. But air conditioning cannot be taken for granted, even in new hotels, so that is something to watch for on a summer visit.

The fact that July and August are peak heat and peak travel season makes SEPTEMBER very appealing.

... or June.

Definitely June or September, the best weather for sightseeing, no school holidays, culture venues before/after their summer breaks.
