Hi,

Wondering if anyone knows of a car service in or around Bacharach, Germany? Specifically, we would like a driver who could drive a group of 9 around to some of the sights in the area that aren't easily accessed by public transportation. Alternatively, we'd be happy to drive ourselves if there were a car rental option close by.

Cheers,
Stephen

You should be able to find a rental car in Mainz or Wiesbaden, but check if they have 9 seaters available.

The problem with a group of 9 is that you need a special drivers license if you want to transport more people, so 9 plus driver is 10, you need to rent a small bus then, but you are able to rent a van for 9 people without that requirement if only 9 people are in the car, you will not have much room for luggage, I think a day pack each is all that's going to fit.

Avis in Mainz has 9 seaters on request.

Living not that far from Bacharach, I'm intrigued what specific sights you want to see that you think aren't available via public transport. The trains up and down the Rhine (plus the boats on the Rhine) are pretty good as this is a pretty touristy area and very busy. Can you elaborate what you're specifically wanting to check out? :)

And to underline c.q. elaborate fwoggies answer: even a more 'out-of-the-valley' destination as is the Ehrbachklamm for a hike is accessable by train, the wonderful ride from Boppard to Emmelshausen.

There's a good - but sometimes pretty crowded cyclepath along the Rhine, too.

Though I do wonder if burg Eltz (IM a topdestination) is approachable by p.t.?! !?

Exactly what I was thinking...even the Germania Monument has a chair-lift adjacent...

Trust Ari to find the 'McGuffin'! :)

#3 Even that's possible by public transport: http://www.burg-eltz.de/en/arriving-by-/public-transport.html

If it's not a weekend or bank holiday, you can take the train to Moselkern and then it's an outrageously pretty 5km hike along the river.

I agree that public transport is pretty good in the area with trains going right along the river. However, if you do need a car and aren't going huge distances a couple of taxis (rather than trying to find 1 vehicle to seat all) would surely be the easiest solution.

#4 Jack, you keep me busy, now researching what's McGuffin. Thanks for helping to develop the forum to a learning community.
