Guten Tag!

I will be visiting Germany for about a week beginning tomorrow, 5 March. I will be primarily in Halle (Saale) but also in Berlin. While there I would like to find any sites related to Alexander von Humboldt, the German geographer. I know that his family had an estate in Tegel, near Berlin and I believe that he is buried there. Can anyone tell me how to get to the estate (including bus or train information), whether there is a grave marker, statue, etc.? Also is there anything in Halle related to von Humboldt?

I'm not really a Humboldt nut, but he is the academic hero of my professor back in the USA. I thought it would be a nice gift to take maybe a rubbing from his grave marker if that is possible. I hope someone can help!

Thanks,
Russell

Schloss Tegel (aka Humboldt-Schloss)
page on the castle on berlin.de
click on "zum Stadtplan" to get a map.
Under "Nahverkehr" (local public transport) there are the names of the next close bus stops and the bus lines which serve these stops. Small problem: the bus drivers in Berlin are on strike till 14. March.

plague where he was born in Berlin-Mitte, Jägerstr. 22
plaque where he lived in Berlin-Mitte, Oranienburger Str. 67
family grave of the Humboldts in the park of Schloss Tegel.

There is conflicting info if this park is open to the public or not. Wikipedia says it was open in 2007. berlin.de says it's not open currently.

Thank you very much. Any more information on how to get to the Schloss if the buses are not going?

S-Bahn S25 to station "Tegel". Actually it wouldn't make much sense to take a bus from there even if the buses would run.
Please note that also the trams and the U-Bahn (metro) are not running.
