Hi
I'd appreciate a piece of advice on what to see in Frankfurt over a two day stopover. I'm mostly into art museums, historical sites, etc. And also, a suggestion of a nice and inexpensive hotel would be welcomed :)
Ta.

start with reading the funnily meant 'assorted FAQ in top: Q nr 1`or so
If you REALLY want that, do NOT go to FRa-city, but take the train from airport the other way, same price, same distance to MAINZ which has all. and has cheap htls, which FRA does not really have, being the big bisnis city (bankfurt, Mainhattan) that it is

I think I agree with No. 2, despite the odd wording and the goofy, almost understandable language. Frankfurt has nothing for the tourist except one mediocre art museum. Mainz is a much better place for a two-day stop near FRA.

I also agree, Mainz has charm and even around the main station you find
several hotels with okay rates which does not mean you should avoid
Frankfurt at all. If you havent been there spend an afternoon there,
it is not that bad in my opinion.

No, friends. For someone who is into art museums, Frankfurt is definitely the place to go, not Mainz. Listen to an art historian.

First, there is the Städel with its not mediocre but excellent collection of paintings. Next door, there is the Liebieghaus which is dedicated to sculpture.

The Schirn gallery has great exhibitions now and then, check what's on.

The Museum für moderne Kunst (MMK) has got some interesting contemporary art, if you're into that - besides, just seeing the architecture of the building and its rooms is worth a visit.

Then there is the Goethemuseum, Architekturmuseum, the treasure of the Dom, etc. etc. etc. More about the museums here

KathrinE is absolutely right!! Mainz may have more charm than Frankfurt, especially during carnival season, but when it comes to museums Frankfurt is the much better place.

Thanks, guys
It's getting clearer. I did read quite a lot of travel guides available online but you know how it goes... Personal experience is so much more realiable, especially when there are several of them! I guess I'll spend a day in Mainz (the charm! - I do like the sound of this :)) and a day in Frankfurt.

I'm from Sydney btw, so if you are interested in travelling down under, I'd be happy to help.
