Hey!

My friends and I are going on Sunday for one day to Passau...

Any advice?
What to visit? what's not to miss? where to eat?

Thanx

Mirna

...you won't miss the point (ort) where the 3 rivers meet as it's the obvious focal point of any visit to Passau...what you may find surprising is the way the waters from the 2 main rivers (Danube and Inn) don't integrate ie there is the blue-ish Danube and the green-ish Inn (coming from the Alps) and a clear divide between them...very unusual effect, the locals are fond of persuading gullible tourists this is the border between Germany and Austria...

...also the Dom is worth a visit to see the largest church organ in Europe (correct me if I'm wrong)...when I was last there, there was a lunchtime concert at 1pm but at this time of year I'm not so sure...lovely town to walk around, there is an old castle up at the HI hostel on the far bank of the Danube where you can walk to get some fine views over the city...also you can take a ferry down the river for an hour or so and back, the view of Passau from a kilometer or so down the river is very special...

...Berne...re Dom...that's what I thought until one of the locals in NiederBayern persuaded me last week that there is a larger church organ somewhere in South America...???

done some research - it's the biggest catholic church organ in the world and the biggest organ outside the USA (land of the bigger, greater..) - there is a bigger one in the First Congregational Church in LA and one in the chapel of Westpoint , but the largest one in Latin America (Mexico City) is in the national auditorium (so not even in a church) and has 2000 pipes less
