We are looking for suggestions for a place to stop on our way from Paris to Provence. We arrive in Paris on an international flight at approximately 5.30pm in late June and will collect our hire car. We will then drive out of Paris towards Provence ( Luberon area). Can anyone recommend a good place to stop for a night about 150 -200kms out of Paris on the way to Provence. Myself and girlfriend are traveling to Paris in a few weeks and are looking for some form of outdoor recreational activity to do somewhere near Paris.
Nothing too extreme, just take in some countryside doing bike riding/kayaking on lakes etc. Want to relax in the country for a few days as well as see the city.
Would greatly appreciate any recommendations/suggestions. We don’t plan to rent a car, prefer to travel by train. Budget is in the mid range.

My wife and I will be arriving in Paris on September 5th and staying until September 12th with a 3 day trip to Normandy in the middle. i usually travel offseason and in countries that don't have schmancy railpasses.

I just bought 1st class passes for my parents. They're travelling next week. This time of year, do they need to pay the extra $$ for reserved seats? I think they're going Paris to Dijon to Annecy back to Paris.
