Can anyone tell me the approximate cost of a taxi from Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse? I'd posted earlier regarding the travel time, but given my lack of familiarity and the tightness of my connection, I think a taxi would be quicker and more direct, albeit more costly. In advance, thanks! mark

It's my first time and I haven't a clue of the geography. I'm thinking of renting a short-term apartment in either the 1st or 4th. Does that make sense? What about staying on Isle St. Louis? Any other ideas?

We'll be on foot or the metro the whole time and are willing to pay extra to be close to the sights. (We're not rich, god knows, but this trip we're thinking of moving up from hostels...) We also enjoy old, classic neighborhoods, quirky shops, etc.

Also, does anyone have…

Hi all. I am going to Paris in November. I have waited what feels like forever to finally travel internationally and get a stamp in my passport, I am so damn excited.

Here is the deal. I will be there for 10 days in early November. I don't love tourist tours and whatnot, and would like to see more than Paris. My friend lives there so it is where I will be based. I am looking for ideas for day trips and even a few overnight trips. I love nature and the outdoors, I am not into shopping or five…

Has anyone been to this little beach resort recently?
It's on the Atlantic coast just a little southwest of Bordeaux, and used to have a great little hostel 'in the dunes', plus you basic small French beach town with the usual assortment of little shops, bars, etc.
Just wondering if it's still the same, has 'disappeared' or become mega touristy.

Hi all

Me and the old fella are wanting a quick week in the French Alps early September and would appreciate advice on the following:

1. Is Geneva airport the best/nearest to the Val d'Isere area?

2. What's the public transport like between the two and around the area - is there any kind of travel card that would cover us for a week?

And in your humble opinion, is it better to hire a car for wandering about or are the local buses/trains good enough?

3. Any recommendations for cheap and cheerful…

A lot has been said about the new bridge - the Millau Viaduct - on the A75 and close to Millau town. While in France next month - am planning to be around this area and spend some time there.

But is the trouble worth it? It appears to be quite out of the way and I guess you NEED a car to go there.

Anybody visited here? Any tips? Can a visit here be combined with, say, Avignon, Montpellier, Albi, etc?

Greetings all;

I'm a first time poster, so please bear with me...

I'm arriving at Gare du Nord (from AMS) and need to connect to a train that'll be leaving Gare Montparnasse.

I need to kow the distance and travel time (via taxi, bus, etc.) from Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse.

Also, any suggestions as to which method is best, the amount of time it'll take and any information on costs invovled will be GREATLY appreciated.

In advance,

Thanks!

I'll be traveling around France for the first two weeks of August. I'll be traveling from Paris to Bordeaux to the south of France...pretty much all over. I know it's going to be hot, but what are good travel clothes? Shorts? Skirts? Sandals? Sneakers? Etc.? Thank you! (Clearly I am not much of a traveler, but I plan on becoming one. :) )

Trying to figure out whether or not gites are something we MUST book in advance or if it's possible to arrive in a town/village day of and get accomodation.

We'd be looking at one nights accomodation (so, rural gites or B & B's) in the triangle of Nimes/Avignon/Arles, may even venture out beyond to see Pont Du Gare and as far east as Aix-en-Provence. For larger towns, we'd stay in something like an Accord hotel but in between them, we'd be looking at gites. We're hestitant to make bookings only…
