That's right and even today a new way exist to ask private land owners to spend a night on their ground for 5 or 6 Euro for a tent. But unfortunately in Nice or along the French Riviera farmers are rare. The 8km long dividing strip on the English Promenade ca be a solution especially in the centre of town.
We done a lot of walking in the Royal National Park, South of Sydney, and we did do a lot of walking with a couple of campers down there.
And 'wildcampers' they were telling us have something of a reputation of being inconsiderate, cheapskates that do spoil it for campers that do the right thing.
That some do leave broken beer bottles, buts, rubbish smoldering fires at their campsites, and have no idea of the 'leave nothing bar your footprints' style of camping.
When i hear of 'wildcampers', i do think what we were told, i mean who would not spend a little in staying in a campsite for the night?
