Hello!

I'm coming to Nice in a couple of days. I basically only have budget for food, I don't want to spend money on expensive hostels, and I've had no success with Couchsurfing so far... so my backup plan is to wildcamp!

Do you know any calm spots I could wildcamp? Anywhere between Cap Ferrat and Cagnes would work.

Thanks a lot!

Oliver

Looking into your file it seems you are French. If yes your question is strange as you must know wild camping is forbidden. A second remark as you have heard about what is called Côte d'Azur there is one village, town after another for some 60 km along the coast and in the near back-land. The only chance to sleep for nothing is on the beach but only until 06:00 before the cleaning start and the police municipal come to wake you up.

Since your profile says you are french, i am surprised that you don't know about the many cheap, municipal campsites all over France: http://www.camping-municipal.org/

If you don’t know what the difference is between wild camping (bivouac in French) and camping look into this site http://www.lecampingsauvage.fr/geolocalisation.html?adress=Alpes-Maritimes,%20France#carte to find out by yourself where in the department Alpes-Maritimes you are welcome.

Another point of interest. Along the coast all beaches, the sea front even criques, belongs to a village or town or city and some of them gives the possibility to spend the night 'a la belle etoile' - but different rules are to respect. Each town hall gives you their. To remember you have Villefranche, Nice, St.Laurent du Var, Cagnes, Villeneuve-Loubet, Biot, Antibes, Juan les Pins, Golf Juan, Cannes, Mandelieu, La Napoule to choice from.

You don't want to 'spend money on expensive hotels', it seems that you don't want to spend any money on a campsite either!!

Do you plan to s**t in somebody's garden, and strip off and wash in the sea?

Another Idea I read about is to ask a local farmer if they allow you to camp on his land and if they are really nice maybe the let you use even their toilet..."Wild camping" is legal if it's on privatly owned land and the owner is ok with it...!

When I was a young boy in the boy scout we often did some two-or three-day-hikes or bike-trips, where we asked a local farmer if we can sleep on his ground (or even in his cow-shed). Sometimes we paid with doing some work around the house for a couple of hours; cleaning or picking stones from a field and so on...; sometimes we didn't had to pay at all...
