I've walked past the Hotel Palym often during trips to Paris, and remember the name, but I don't have a clear recollection of what the hotel looks like. What I do know is that the neighborhood will be fine--- not at all dangerous.
As for the Ibis Place d'Italie, that should also be fine as a budget hotel. I've used two other Ibis Hotels near the Gare de Lyon, one is Ledru Rollin and the other Diderot, and both were fine. (I was staying in one when I walked past the Palym). An Ibis at Cour St Emilion is often a little less expensive. The metro stop is about 200m from the hotel (line 14, which is relatively new and fast).

Hi All,

Really thanks for your input. =) Kinda a tough choice to make with so many opinions given, but I'd rather have this than choosing a hotel blindly. =)

And to fulgenzio, actually, the tour covers many countries in europe, not just France. Paris is the last stop, that's all. We just decided to go with a tour, so that it saves us the hassle of planning since it's our honeymoon, but otherwise, we usually go for F & E holidays.

But since it's a tour, we kinda decided to extend another 4-5 days in Paris, to really enjoy ourselves, like what MsRight has highlighted. =)

once again, thanks~! ^_^

The neighbourhood around rue Émile-Gilbert is fine; I have friends who live rue Traversière near there - very good restaurant on that street, and Marché d'Aligre is close by. It is well connected to the RER and métro lines, and a short walk from Bastille and Le Marais. You are also right by La Promenade plantée.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in any event.

From the looks of the postal codes your hotels are not exactly in the center of Paris. Here is one in the Latin Quarter that I have stayed at a couple times and was very satisified. IMO it is a better location.

When setting out on a journey, do not seek advice from those who have never left home.
