For 3 night in Paris, budget 50-70euro a night (double room ), where to stay , preferred somewhere close to Train station.
Is Hotels around Gare du Nord a dodgy place to stay ?
Reviews on tripadvisor on those budget hotel around Gare du Nord is horrible, like shower that doesn't work, bed that crack, bedbugs...etc
Should I spend the extra dollars on higher priced hotel?

Thanks

Tripadvisor people often are expecting a luxury hotel at budget prices. At Gare du Nord, you get a budget hotel at budget prices. Feel free to ask to see the room before you decide. I am amazed that so few people do this.

Funny, I responded earlier but my post didn't show up. I hope I'm not repeating myself.

The neighborhood around Place Republique has a bunch of budget hotels in your range. It's just a few stops from Gare du Nord and a pleasant area. Look on Rue du Malte. We stayed at the Hotel de Nevers and loved it.

I also love the neighborhood around Place de la Republique, and always stay there. My favorite place is the Hotel de la Republique on Rue Albert Thomas. I've also stayed at the Hotel 3 Nations which is OK (clean, friendly, though a bit "threadbare".)

If you stay 3 nights in Paris, why do you want to stay close to a train station? There are many lovely neighbourhoods in Paris.
I usually stay in El Dorado, close to Place de Clichy. Nice hotel at good prices. Need to bok ahead though as it fills up quickly.

... but don't go there if you want a TV in the room. But it is quite funky. Since Strawberita did not give you the website, here it is: Hôtel Eldorado

I think I might tend to recommend the Hôtel Utrillo in Montmartre. People I know who have been there have all found it to be excellent value for money. Free internet at the reception area.
