Having gotten so many helpful responses on my previous questions, now I can't make a trip longer than a few days without consulting this forum.

This question is regarding a general direction - I did some initial research, and can't understand if two weeks are enough to go out to Nice and we should concentrate on the western Provence. I marked points of interest in Google Earth, and the majority are concentrated in the west. Getting some coastal scenery would be great, but I don't want to move the base too much - once or twice tops.

About us: we're a couple with a 5 years old daughter. At 5 years, the kiddo won't be able to walk significant distances and is too old/large for a stroller. We'll have a car during our two week long stay (let's presume 12 days if we take out the flight days). We love nature (short hikes up to 2 hours), exploring and small to mid-sized towns, tasting local cuisine and wines. A few kids-friendly attractions would never hurt, though the trip is not about theme parks.

I was thinking of making a base around Avignon or Gordes for 8 days, plus 4 days in Antheor.
Does this make sense?

Thanks,
Jean

We had four nights in Avignon, and absolutely loved it ... and even if you take an apartment inside the old town, there is actually quite a bit of street / courtyard parking around. I don't know Antheor, but Arles was also nice to visit ... and yes ... four days on a beach would definitely seem sensible.

La Provence is based in the region of PACA, spitted in six different departments like: Alpes-Maritimes (Nice), Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Haute-Alpes, Var (Antheor), Vaucluse (Avignon) and Bouches-du-Rhone. If interested in places to visit on your 12 days have a look at this site for example http://www.monumentum.fr/vaucluse-d-84-carte.html - of course this concern only French national monuments and has nothing to do with 'dancing on the bridge' in Avignon.

The little part Antheor on the border between the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var has some little beaches in what is called Calanques - like small little Fjords. Parking places are most of the time rare. As you have a car going to Mandelieu / La Napoule or western in direction to St. Raphael would be better.

Have you had a look into this http://www.lonelyplanet.com/france/provence/travelling-with-children ?

Hi,
In July, Avignon is very busy with its festival : http://www.festival-avignon.com/en/.
If you love nature and hiking, then from Nice, you have quick access to the Mercantour National Park : http://www.destinationwildfrance.com/mercantour/.
Luberon is nice to visit. Travel by car, then visit the villages by foot.
