Hi!

I need the TGV from Hendaye to Paris, I am in Spain and none of the train stations here can sell me a ticket. I have tried on the site but it isnt in Enlgish, only French which I dont understand! I need to know where and what to do with the reservation and I want to get the under 25 years old discount.

Some help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually there is an English version of the website (can't post the link though - LP doesn't like it !!).
Check out this link SNCF and click on the English flag at the bottom of the welcome page.

As for your discount, you have to purchase a 12-25 card to get the discount. You can order it on line too.

To view the SNCF site in English, click on the British flag in the lower left-hand corner of the home page. If PREM'S (discount) tickets are available for the date and time you wish to travel, print the ticket yourself. If you need to book a standard fare ticket, choose the option of picking it up at the station or a ticket boutique. In either case, leave France as the default country. Do NOT choose cancellation insurance for a PREM'S ticket.

I plugged in an arbitrary date and did a dummy booking. I was NOT required to indicate I had a 12-25 card to get the youth fare. I only had to choose that age category from the pull-down menu. The PREM'S fare on that date was the cheapest, followed by the youth fare and then the standard 2nd class fare.

Thanks, I found that tiny English flag! But before I read your reply I already bought an under 25's ticket - but I dont have a card. Like Tim I was not required to enter a type of card....I think its so stupid to have a card when your passport indicates what age you are! I hope they dont make me fork out the extra 20Euro when i go to pick up the ticket...has this happened to anyone?

There is a VERY small chance that you will NOT be fined on the train...Maybe if you play dumb, and if the "contrôleur" is in a good mood. You're supposed to have a card.

No, don't worry about the fine. You got the "discovery 12-25" fare which is available for anybody under 25. You're not supposed to have a card for this ticket. Your passport or any other ID should be sufficient to validate it.

The "card 12-25" would have give you an extra discount (up to 50%). But since you have to pay for it, it's profitable only if you plan on travelling a few times by train in France. It's valid up to one year.

Bon voyage

One other point that may not exactly apply to your circumstances: I reserved tickets using my American credit card, and discovered that I couldn't retrieve my tickets from kiosks in rail stations. Instead, I had to wait in line to retrieve my tickets from a sales clerk. Be sure to note your cofirmation code!! If you have your code, it's very simple, except for losing time waiting in line and, for some reason, the clerks' computer can read my credit cars with no problem.

Ok, so if it helps anyone out Jedy was right - Ive been on it now, and its cool to book the 12-25 without a card and you get a pretty good discount, but if you have the card then you get an even better discount when you select that on the net.
