Hi there,

I'm going to be travelling between Barcelona and Florence by train. I'd like to stretch the trip out a bit and make a few stops along the way. I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend some highlights of Southern France. If you were able to make 2 or 3 stops, where would you go? Why? Nice? Aix-en-Provence? Any suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Montpellier, Nimes, Arles if we are talking larger cities accessible by public transport. Avignon and Aix too. If driving - go to smaller towns inland.

If traveling by train the route takes you along the coast through the French Cote d'Azure and Italian Riviera. Depending how many days you have to travel and make three stops, there are a lot of places along the main line in France and the coast line to Tuscany in Italy - in France - Aix-en-Provence would require a connection, then Cannes or Nice, or stops in between like Juan Valaurus, Monaco, and in Italy - Ventimiglia, Luguria or Sestri Levant

Here are some ideas

Monaco
Nice
Cannes This is about the Film Festival, but the rest of the year is only slightly less mad.

Italy
Sestri Levant Italian Riviera
Laigueglia Liguria
