Hi,
We're in Paris right now, staying at Montmartre. We'll like to know where to go for good (reasonably priced - nothing that screams branded e.g. gucci, prada etc) shopping (both chain stores e.g. H&M and fresh/upcoming parisian designers) and also nice cafes to sit and people watch. So far, we've hung around at Montmartre as well as spend our days cooped up in musuems. It'll be a nice change to sit, relax and enjoy the Parisian lifestyle. Suggestions for good french cuisine (we're willing to spend approx 30 euros) would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Scratch the chain stores. For the rest I love the Rue Vieille du Temple in the 3rd. And for the affordable lunch or dinner go to Au C’Amelot 50, rue Amelot, 75011 Paris, phone 01.43.55.54.04. Mind you, there is a set menu where you can only chose the dessert, so you have to eat what they serve...
For shopping, try the Les Halles area, as well as the Forum des Halles. Even if you don't buy anything in that termite nest, it will give you a good idea of the prices. The Forum has an H&M on three levels which is considering to be the most cutting edge of the H&M stores in Paris (each H&M has its own buying policy, so there are major variations regarding what you can find in each store.

Thanks guys..!
We went to the Forum des Halles and walked around Rue Etienne Marcel. The place was huge! Will definitely try and go to the Rue Vieille du Temple as well. How much would a dinner at Au C'Amelot cost?

My favorite cafe is Cafe Les Editeurs in St. Germain. This site has a Best Cafes in Paris page that you can use to find others as well.
I would also recommend stopping in the BHV department store.
A restaurant I really liked for a fair price of about 25 Euro for a three course meal is located 4 or 5 blocks behind the New Opera at Bastille. Sorry it is not where you wanted it to be, but by metro it is not that far in time. The name is La Table d'Aligre and a few years ago it was noted in the Paris issue of Bon Appetite Magazine. The interior is simple but elegant. The menu is creative and changes every day. A very good wine selection. They are always busy and I would recommend a reservation. Have your hotel make the reservations for you. They are open for lunch and re-open again about 7:30 for dinner. This restaurant is not well known by the tourists.
