Good morning everyone:

My wife and I will be in Paris during part of the first week and third week of October. We have never been, having spent most of the past 17 years traveling throughout South and Southeast Asia, where weather is pretty much familiar to us - hot and humid all the time.

Can anyone of you advise me on what we might expect weather wise during this time and suggest types of clothing we should take with us. We will also be touring the common Italian tourist cities - Rome, Florence and Venice. We are both late 50-60 ish and like to dress nicely, yet comfortably.

I understand TT is a bit of a shortcut to some of our preparation, but I have always found this forum helpful and do appreciate all replies. Thank you

Doug

Weather is unpredictable of course, but probably you are looking at cool weather in Paris, maybe 11-14° or so...with some sun and some rain.Warmer at the start of October, getting cooler as the month goes on.

For me that means you need a windproof and waterproof jacket, and an umbrella,But not scarves and gloves..that depends on you though ;-)

Venice should be similar..a little warmer than Paris by day.Rome considerably warmer, maybe around 17-18° in the daytime. Its a nice time for visiting Rome...

Try the historical weather data on wunderground.com (and check more than one year). I would wear whatever you would wear at home. Layers are good. Scarves, particularly for your wife, are fantastic and multi-purpose. A light weight waterproof jacket. Weather is so unpredictable - one year we had hot weather in northern Italy for most of October and then cold with lots of rain during our last week much further south.

In October, you can get relatively warm weather( although it will feel cool compared to Asia) or you can get windy, rainy weather. Use a layer approach with a moisture-wicking base shirt, a thin merino wool sweater( black is great for dressier occasions) or a long sleeve thermal shirt, and a waterproof breathable windbreaker-- a hooded windbreaker is a plus. An umbrella may come in handy as well.
