Hello,
I am staying one night in Paris between a flight and catching the train up north the next day (I will return to Paris later). I fly into Orly.
I am wondering where the train station is compared to the centre of the city. I have discovered the airport is south somewhere.
Where might be convenient areas to stay? Is the train station central or not?
Any tips on a good site for a basic map of Paris and the metro so I can research it myself?

Orly is in the South (between 20 and 45 mins to city center) U have 3 ways to get two paris :
- Orly val (type of train/ metro) cost around 8 euros it takes 30 mins and drop u in the center (Chatelet)
http://www.orlyval.com/<BR><BR>- Bus RATP or Car airfrance cost around 6 euros or free if you are travelling on airfrance. it drops u at gare Montparnasse
- Taxi... it's really expensive, and Paris is full of traffic Jam
If you are heading North by train / the train station is gare du Nord. It's still in paris and well deserved by metro and RER (train)

The Orlyval is a driverless shuttle train that goes between the airport and the Antony RER station. From that station you would need to take the RER B to central Paris and transfer, as necessary, to other RER and/or Metro lines. The total cost to get to central Paris using Orlyval + RER/Metro is €9.30.
A cheaper way to get to central Paris is to take the free shuttle bus from the airport to the Pont de Rungis RER station. Take the RER C to central Paris and transfer, as necessary, to other RER and/or Metro lines. The cost is €6.00.
You can also take the Orlybus to Denfert Rochereau (€6.10) and then buy a single ticket €1.50) for the RER & Metro from there to anywhere in central Paris.
The Air France bus to Gare Montparnasse costs €9.00. You can take the RER and/or Metro from there to anywhere else in central Paris, again for €1.50.

Orlyval is the best way to get from Orly to Paris if the price difference of a few euros is not a problem, and EXCEPT for a few variables. The Jetbus, for example, is the best way if you are staying anywhere on metro line 7. The Orlybus is good if you are going to Denfert-Rochereau.
If you are leaving out of Gare du Nord the next day (the most likely option if you are going 'north'), the Orlyval + RER B would be your best option for staying in that area, since the RER B goes to Gare du Nord. There are about 50 hotels there in every imaginable price range (30€ to 300€).
The Orlyval deposits you more or less on the RER B platform in Antony, and the RER B arrives within 5 minutes.
