Dear Friends,
We (2 persons) are coming from Italy via Ventimiglia by train to Nice (France) and back to Italy in September.
We'd like to stay in Nice for about 4 days and have day-trips to Cannes, Monaco, any other places you suggest.
We appreciate very much if you could share your experiences, sightseeing, budget and SAFE accommodation tips

Last year I stayed at the Ibis Nice Gare (Railway). Clean, basic, and next to the railway station allowing for the day trips you request. It has a pool too.

Thank you wayoutback.

Looks like a place we'd like to stay very much though it's fully booked for mid-sept-late sept (booking.com and couple of other places)
I couldn't get to their site booking and try again later on.

I wonder if we could get a similar place for close to 70 Euros a day for 2 people please

The return inland train from Nice to the Italian town of Cuneo is well worth doing.

We caught the Train from Nice, enjoyed the train trip no end, had a stroll around town, and lunch up at Cuneo and took the train back.

A very pleasent day indeed, this page may tell you more..................http://www.beyond.fr/travel/railcuneo.html

There are some big congresses in Nice from the beginning 17-09 till the first October. Maybe you look for a hotel a little bit outside but near Nice as there are the towns of St. Laurent du Var, Cagnes, Carros, Lingustiere, Villefranche. But I doubt that you will find something for 70€ in this time. 100€ without breakfast for 2 people seems more realistic.

I'm so happy to know this crucial info in advance, regards

I wonder if those under 2 Euro bus tickets from Nice (please correct me if this info outdated) take us to reasonably short distance daily and back would be doable within our budget as we do not want to shorten our Nice trip?

Any budget hotel/accommodation suggestions at places where we could reach by a reasonably short bus trip please?

Inside the department Alpes-Maritimes a one way bus ticket is about 1,50€ for one way, short or long distance.
The site booking.com gives good prices in the 2 star level in Antibes. Here also you have buses and regional trains along the coast. The distance to Nice is about 15km or 30 minutes by bus.
