We are going on a spontaneous trip (we're leaving in 3 days) to the south of France and the only thing planned so far is that we will be arriving in Nice, and departing from Ajaccio. We will be spending a total of 5 nights.
We have not yet decided on where we will stay, but I've heard great things about Juan-les-Pins so that is one option. We have not decided on how long we will stay in Nice before taking the ferry to Corsica either.

We are a 29/30 yo couple travelling and our goal is to relax, enjoy good food and drinks, and see some beautiful scenery. We wouldn't mind doing some shopping, going to the beach, hiking or going on small adventures either. Also, avoiding the worst tourist traps would be nice.

So, I wonder: Do you have any tips on what we should prioritize doing during these 5 days? Or any recommendations regarding where we should stay in the Nice-area?

Five days is very short of course. Prioritize on Corsica; I mean what is the point otherwise to go all the way to Corsica if you won't have any time to appreciate it ?
I'd say forget about Nice and the Côte d'Azur and spend all your time in Corsica. Rent a car to get the most out of your limited time; it's a spectaculair island well worth more time.

Thanks lilyramone. Corsica seems wonderful and the more I read, the more time I would like to spend there. Can't wait to get a sneak peak, but I'm realizing that it might well trigger the need to come back. Is there any area of Corsica you would recommend in particular for such a short trip?

Let me get this right, you have got to get from home[Norway i assume] to Nice, and then to Corsica via ferry, then back home and only have 5 nights to do it?

I would say that say that is too small a time frame to do this, and your term of 'sneak peak' is very apt here, if it were me i would go for one or the other, is it to late to to do this?

To avoid tourists in southern France the best time would be October or later but not now as it is the absolute hight season (also for the prices).
Nice area? Do you mean the department, just the backland Nice surrounding or only the Cote d'Azur? If not the town itself a car can be helpful if not there are good connexion along the coast by regional trains and buses - also to Juan les Pins. Btw, what kind of "great things" somebody told you about JlP?

Thanks for your feedback. It is not to late to do one or the other. It's a 3 hour flight from Norway so that part's not too much hassle. The only thing we can't change is that we'll be arriving in Nice, so that will be our starting point. And that's really what I mean with the Nice area - anywhere we could go after landing in Nice. It could mean going straight to Corsica and staying there for 5 days.

The thing about Juan les Pins is that I've heard from different people (same age/interest couples) how they love it there and want to go, or keep, coming back. But I'm open for any other option. I just imagine that Nice (the city) could be kind of boring for 5 days straight, and that it would be more interesting to go on a day trip there? If we were to skip the trip to Corsica that is.

The most important thing is that we want 5 days of relaxing, good food and wine, and enjoying our surroundings.

An update on our travel plans. We have decided to postpone Corsica to some time in the future when we can spend more time there and plan our trip better. Something to look forward to!

So for this trip we will rent an apartment and use this as our base. We have 3 apartments to choose from right now, in these locations:
- Cagnes-sur-mer
- Rue Arson, Nice
- Cimiez, Nice

We will need to decide soon, but will welcome any input you might have. TIps to what we should see, do, eat etc. are also very welcome.

Cagnes sur Mer is connected with the rest of the Côte d'Azur by local public transport like buses and the railway (TER=regional trains). It's a medium size town with three main roads passing by: the sea front road or promenade, the national road N7 and the motorway. The distance to the Nice airport is about 7 km or 20 Minutes by car or bus.
Between the centre and the coast you have also Cros de Cagnes which is the part along the beach between the town of St. Laurent du Var and Villeneuve-Loubet. The northern part is called Haute de Cagnes and its the old town, a pretty nice village on the top of a hill with the Grimaldi castle on. Difficult to walk up but from the main bus terminal you have a free shuttle up and own each 20 minutes. On the opposite hill is the museum Renoir, his home and workshop.

Nice, rue Arson is in the centre of town (north to south) and a one way street with heavy traffic all the time. In short walking distances you find the old town and the centre of Nice with all kind of shops, boutiques, restaurants, Brasseries and Bistros. Also the district around the harbour is not far with a lot of public work in the moment as they try to make a renovation from this quarter. Good connection also by the public transport, buses, tram way and trains.

Nice Cimiez is a northern situated quarter and can be very nice especially the part between the roman ruins and the lower part near the theatre and congress centre of Nice. Going up north you come to the nearest village just outside of Nice called Falicon (that's about +/- 6 km far).
