Hey,

I will soon visit Marseille with my girlfriend. We will arrive by TGV from Paris and take a rental car at the TGV station.

We will only have about 5 days in the South of France, so I'm not sure if we should stay in Marseille for a night or look somewhere else for a place for the night (we will arrive in Marseille by 12 o'clock, so there would be time enough).

If we stay in Marseille - are there any hotels and areas you could recommend ?

It shouldn't be too expansive, but at the same time, it should be nice and clean, have it's own toilet and shower. No luxury needed, but I like it... ;-)

Thanks in advance for your help !

Michael

One of the best deals in the Vieux Port heart of the city is the Etap Hotel, just a block or two from the port and all of the tourist areas.

If you're just looking for a place to sleep, the Etap Hotel above is clean affordable.
But once in your room you could be staying in a motel anywhere in the world : it's characterless.

Since you'll have a car, choose a bed and breakfast from Gites de France outside of Marseille, you'll stay in a nice place, you'll meat the place's owner, you won't regret your stay.
Gites de France is a very serious bed & breakfast association. They impose quality standards to each B&B owner, they value the confort & the environment. Their web site helps you find a location, and then you deal directly with the owner.
My wife & I often get addresses from this website for weekends or longer stays. We've never been disappointed. Lots of places are in the countryside in very nice places.

Eole.
