Hi.
I'm considering booking a trip from London to Amsterdam on Eurostar in late September, and am trying to get an idea of how Eurostar passenger services are being impacted on by the current situation in Calais (Eurostar's route map shows that the train goes through Calais).

I understand that situations change, and that it's unlikely anyone will be able to accurately predict circumstances in September, but wanted to hear from anyone who's had very recent experience, whether your journey was delayed or impacted on in any way.

Also, if anyone knows of any useful forums where I might find more information, I'd be grateful if you could let me have details.

Thanks.

Use it several times a year; last time was two weeks ago, didn't notice anything unusual on the 15:02 to Brussels. Eurostar would report anything on its website (it's good at that), but neither they nor mainstream media have reported any affect on Eurostar serviecs.

Well there have been several tunnel closures in the last couple of months, due to either striking French ferry workers or various migrants trying to get to the UK but neither of these are very predictable, so who knows what the situation will be like in late September.

I recommend using a great alternative route from London to Amsterdam: The overnight ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland. It takes longer than by the Eurostar train, but as it is a night trip it's actually a time saving option, more comfortable and civilised and more of an experience, it saves you a night's hotel bill in expensive London and this way it ends up cheaper than by train. Is there a reason for doing it this way? It is often cheaper to fly, especially if you can get a good deal from London city, the ferry is a good choice if you have more time, but it does tend to get a bit messy with lots of people partying.

#4 I haven't travelled on that night ferry, but so far every source indicated that it's a very comfortable and restful voyage. Even if there is a party athmosphere in the bar I guess the cabins have good soundproofing to block out any noise and anway it's a huge ship so chances are your cabin is not next to the bar.

So you have recommended something you have not used but waxed lyrically about it. I have been on it on many occasions and most times enjoyed the party, but you cabin does not have to be by the bar, just next a cabin full of rather loud people. Yes you can of course have a comfortable night and I guess many do.
