i've done a search and couldn't find what i wanted, so i hope you can help.
myself and a bunch of female friends are heading to paris for the night on saturday and need some hints on where to go out in the evening. we are looking for an area, like soho or shoreditch in london, which has plenty of bars but also a laid back, cool vibe. i have heard that the marais could fit the bill but know nothing about the area. we are looking for hip bars and clubs where the people are style conscious, but not snotty label queens. we're 20s and 30s, so it would be good to find somewhere with a varied age range.
any suggestions gratefully received!

You will want to go to rue de Lappe, near Bastille, as well as the faubourg Saint Antoine.
If you are all heterosexual women, you would risk being horribly disappointed by the Marais.

I agree that the Bastille area would be best. Depending on whether you're interested in bars or clubs, there are plenty of stylish places there. If you like clubs, try Barrio Latino.

I omitted Oberkampf because it is more relaxed and less style conscious than the OP's psychological requirements.

the reason i said that is we want to get a bit dressed up (more than jeans and t shirt) for our night out and don't want to look out of place. i'm not some kind of fashion nazi, just prefer somewhere a bit funky and quirky to mainstream on this occasion.
thanks for the bastille and rue oberkampf suggestions.
