Searching for a culinary violet essence. The type that is used in some lemonades and pastries. Any suggestions of where to look would be highly appreciated.

So...is it hard to understand that some people pick up specific items on their travels that are not available elsewhere? Do people on the thorntree not cook? Do not assume that other thorntree members are as ignorant as you are.

OK, Big Iain - you should be red-faced on this one being a local!!!

It's a speciality of Toulouse & surrounding region, the best place to get it fairly cheaply (& rather suprisingly) is the Aire de Lauragais service station on the A61 (autoroute) in the tourist shop next to the Canal du Midi (on the eastbound side - but westbound traffic can access it!)

If you're in Paris, maybe the food market in Galeries Lafayette?

There you have it, Allegory. Go to this particular aire on the A61, the shop by the Canal du Midi. Of course you may not want to travel that far. We don't know. Stop being sarcastic with Big Iain and give us an indication of where you would like to buy the stuff. In Paris? In Lille? Back in Thorn Tree World?

Thank you very much for the info Kira and Umbrellaman. Much appreciated. This search has taken a while to get an answer, even from my friends living in diferent regions of France. I was trying the Thorn Tree as a last resort. I assumed it was a specialty of a certain region, but did not know which one. Now I know!

Toulouse, local? I have never been near it actually. I think that Carcassonne is the closest I may have been.

Allegory, I have no idea where YOU are!!! IF you are in France then try the above instructions. Give us all a clue? I know where I can buy it in Beziers but that is most likely not very helpful for you is it?

And thanks for calling me ignorant, happy shopping wherever you are! (France? the US? the Faroe Islands?)
