Wow, thank you so much for all the tips! 35euros does not seem like very much per day, especially if we will be taking buses. But at least from what I see from responses, there are bus options. I have already seen Ouibus and flix bus, as well as blablacar, that had very good prices, but I am worried about securing seats on a bus last minute, as we do not have a fixed itinerary. I'll have to send an update in the summer once we begin our trip!

I cannot speak from experience in France, however here in Germany, where long-distance busses were deregulated from 2013 (France: autumn 2015), busses are usually not fully booked except at peak times (e.g. Friday & Sunday). seems there are currently a lot of introductory prices on offer, these might get more expensive once routes are deemed to be well enough established and/or you will need to book them well in advance. this said, be aware it is a volatile market (at least over here), so it is not uncommon that routes get changed or discontinued on short notice (~several weeks). use the current data as a guideline, yet do not be surprised if you find some things different in summer.
