thx i know that...

so if anyone knows of a really nice/cool place to sit for an hour or two (nice = for instance: lovely view, smthg original, interresting 'ppl watch', trendy, classic? best confiture, best poached eggs.... whatever, that stands out) - where to have maybe a little more than just a croissant on the go, maybe even a breakfast menu......

the standard french "brasserie" is NOT what i am asking for

I'm a breakie lover!!

The French aren't really into breakfast so it's generally a big big disappointment (and therefore one of the few let-downs culinary-wise in this country). For me a croissant is Ok once in a while but is hardly breakfast!
Brunches, however, (particularly on a Sunday) are starting to become fashionable and can be great. One of my faves is the Pain Quotidien chain which are based (amongst other places at the Place du Marche St Honore, Bourse and rue Montorgueil)

If you need a grease fix, there is always Breakfast in America on rue des Ecoles, but don't ask me to call it "good".

Try the restaurant at the top of Beaubourg. Great setting. Great views.

Definitely trendy.

OP, your question wasn't clear until you bothered to clarify it in #2. the TT operates on a garbage in-garbage out principle.

Like mentioned above, the French don;t really do breakfast. I bet some of the design hotels (Kube, Hotel L' A, Costes, Murano) would do a decent breakfast but they're still just hotels...If Costes serves breakfats in their garden that could be nice.

Pain Quotidien has already been mentioned- again, not sure what time they open.

#5, i doubt Georges is open for breakfast.

Brunches are all you can hope for, and 90% of them are on Sunday only. And that's assuming you find it normal to eat breakfast at 11 am.

One idea might be to go to one of the 24h restaurant-brasseries of Paris -- Le Pied de Cochon, l'Alsace, le Grand Café and a few others. Then you can have oysters for breakfast followed by spaghetti or sauerkraut or pigs' feet and move on from there. But it won't be a bargain.

Ladurée does breakfasts. Not a bargain though, and other customers will likely be businesspeople having a power breakkie. In the same genre, there's Fouquet's on the Champs Elysees and most if not all high-end hotels. But I'm not sure whether that's what the OP has in mind.

As others have said breakfasts are not a big meal in France, unlike the UK or US where you can find places that serve them all day...

In any case, the standard brasserie is still the best bet to fit the description in #2, even the OP doesn't seem to think so. There are absolutely great brasseries for watching people, and any big brasserie will have the poached eggs, best confiture or whatever. Paris would not be the #1 tourist destination in the world if it did not adapt to foreign needs.
