Is it necessary to reserve the remote gites/refuges in advance in the French national parks? (Parc d'ecrins). I'm there this month (so I guess it's peak season)

Do they have bedding or is it expected that you bring a sleeping bag?

I don't know...but some of these links may help in other ways.
Here's the English version of the guide to French National Parks, including separate tabs for each part with links, etc. to be found there.

And here is the guide
In French http://www.gites-refuges.com/v2/
in English http://translate.google.fr/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gites-refuges.com%2Fv2%2F&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8
Here's info for the Pyrenees:

Another area:

And this one is for a specific area but it appears to offer lots of info for other areas:

That should get you started...
There is a Thorn Tree forum Trekking and Mountaineering, you might also post there...
good luck

http://www.gites-bedandbreakfast-isere.com/list.html?dateouvnbj=120& this is the site for the parc. As you can see a reservation will be better especially in your time. Most of the 'gites' are to rent only from week to week.

For the refuges (mountain huts) you will at least need a sleeping bag liner / sheet, as only duvets or blankets and pillows are available. Or you can rent them on site. You can use a sleeping bag if you have one. Some refuges will have "free" cooking facilities, some will have you pay for use of kitchen.
It really depends, you have to check each one. No need to book for the most basic places (even if you may have to sleep on the floor ;-)!), strongly advisable for the rest of them.
