Pisa to CT is just over an hour by fast train, via La Spezia.

CT to Venice...a lot longer, something like 6 hours. That is basically a day of your trip gone....so you would need to expand Venice to 3 nights I guess.

Venice-Rome is about 3.5 hours.

With your timeframe, personally I'd drop the CT and just visit Paris,Venice and Rome. That can be done all by train if you want,or with budget flights between Paris and Venice. It gives you enough time to move between places and to see Venice,as well as the other two cities.

I'd certainly select the route with the least back-tracking. So Paris to Venice and then further south. Assuming that at this late date you've already booked a flight out of Rome.

However: will your day of travel between Paris and Venice be part of a Venice day or a Paris day?
I mean, spending that kind of time and money for a day and a half (or less) in Venice hardly seems worth it.

I'd drop one of Venice or Cinque Terre. Whichever one you drop will tell you the best airport to fly into.

if you haven't booked a flight out of Rome yet, you could start in Rome and work your way north. Assuming, again, there are good connections between Pisa (or Venice) and wherever you call home.

Only 3 cities in 14 days?
Well, these are some of the greatest cities in Europe. In the unlikely event you get bored, there are always day trips.

Fewer destinations means less travel time and expense. And more time where you really want to be.

Too much travelling around for me. Drop CT and spend more time in Venice - there's plenty to do there, and you really need most of one day for the islands.

Thanks everyone for your input. I miscalculated.
I've got 5 nights of time between CT and Venice- does that make visiting both slightly more feasible? I know it's still rushed and we won't see everything... Here's the tentative itinerary.
Day 1: Fly to Paris
Day 2: Arrive in Paris
Day 3-5: Paris
Day 6: Paris to Venice (fly)
Day 7: Venice
Day 8: Venice to CT (train)
Day 9-10: CT
Day 11: CT to Rome (train)
Day 12-14: Rome
Day 15: Fly home

It's either 3 nights in CT/ 2 nights in Venice, or 2 nights in Venice and 3 nights in CT. 3 nights in Venice seem to make more sense, but my mom and I seem more drawn to CT... it's hard to say though, having never been there!

Paris and Rome accommodations/ flights are already booked, so that can't be changed.

Please let me know what changes you recommend. And if the travel route seems okay. Any advice/ things to look out for travelling to/ out of CT would be great too. Thanks again!

You still get only one full day in Venice. It's not enough, and IMO just not worth it. If you're both more drawn to CT, then forget Venice, save yourselves the unnecessary travelling time and cost, and devote the time you've saved to CT and/or Rome.
