Need advise for Paris France 9 day vacation. - First timers

We would like to accomplish: Spending a few days in Paris, 1 day in London and 1 day in Germany or Switzerland.

What should we do that is more logistically practical?

  1. Fly into London spend the day, train into paris for a few days, train into germany and fly out of germany?
  2. Fly into Paris, setup "homebase". take train into london for a day, take train into germany, spend the rest in paris and fly out?
  3. ????? or what should we do? thanks so much.

Spending only 1 day in Britain and Germany is not worth it.

1) This is the most logical, but spend at least 2-3 days in London and 2-3 days in Germany.

2) This makes no sense at all.

3) You could simply spend all the time in France. Or drop 1 of the 3 and do only London - Paris or Paris - Germany.

if you were to pick, which would you do london or germany? i dont know much about either, and don't have a preference.

In this case I'd just stay in France.

One day London is a waste of time, and even more so for something in Germany, only chosen for its proximity to Paris. Why not have a few days elsewhere in France, as Buratino suggests? France has an excellent rail network, which brings you within a few hours to all corners of the country. Lyon, for example, is no more than two hours from Paris by the TGV service. Or base yourself somewhere on the Loire, rent a car and have a few days exploring castles.

^ Ton, I didn't even think about that. This is exactly what I will do then. which castles do you recommend in france?

also, why would 1 or possibly 2 days in london be a waste?

# Google on 'castles loire valley' (or 'chateaux' to get in the French spirit) and I'm sure you've found a place for a few days out of Paris.
# Two days London already sounds better than one day, but I still find it meagre for what the city has on offer. Why not keep it for a next trip? (I'm of the philosophy 'you do it right or not at all, but you don't do it a little bit'.)

Buy a good guidebook. The Michelin Green Guides are excellent.
Have a good time!
