We're arriving in Paris the morning of April 14th, which is Good Friday. We're staying in an apartment near the Champs Elysees. I'm concerned about shops and attractions being open from the 14-16 and I've also read that Monday, April 17th might be a holiday. Any feedback or insight welcome!

Perhaps check with the Paris Tourism office. But without really knowing, I think most attractions will be open Friday-Sunday, while the things that are normally closed Mondays (Orsay, Versailles, etc) will be closed Easter Monday anyway.

Good Friday is not a holiday in France. If anything is closed, it will indeed be on the Monday, whether regular closing or because Easter Monday is a holiday.

However, in the touristy parts of the city, most shops and restaurants will be open.

That's interesting ... in largely Protestant (but essentially secular) Australia, Good Friday has always been our most holiday-ish public holiday, rivalling and possibly surpassing Christmas Day.

I remember about 20 years go there was considerable controversy when at least two of our football codes bit the bullet and scheduled games on the day. So it is fading, but the four-day weekend is welcome - and a last summer fling or trip to the beach-house for most people!

Good Friday is also a holiday in Canada, much of which was Protestant for a long time. Not Monday though so just a 3-day weekend.

Depending on which (European) country you are you will have different holiday days in Easter. For example in Italy and France Good Friday is not holiday but we have Monday Easter off. In Germany they have Friday and Monday off. In Spain they have Thursday and Friday off while in Catalonia they have Friday and Monday off.
Regards to Paris and your question, all tourist attractions will be opened that WE, perhaps some restaurants and shops will be closed on Monday.
Have fun in Paris :-)

Also in Switzerland Good Friday and Monday is off work.
Paris is still the Destination number 1 in Europe and during easter it attracts huge crowds.
Sights are open but almost certainly with waiting lines.

I'm not sure but either it was Good Friday or on Sunday there was a huge Christian celebration in front of Sacre Coeur,
celebrating Jesus...
