I will be in Paris for a week in May and want to take a day trip out of the city somewhere within 2 hours from Paris city. Does anyone have a good recommendation of a town / place?

Thx.

I don't know what your interest are but if you like architecture, history and museums, nice parks, shopping, lively cities, gastronomy and good wines you'll find all that in Dijon which is only 1h40 from Paris (from Gare de Lyon). My Dijon pics

Go to the tourist office and ask for the "owl's trail" brochure which will show you all the nicest sites in Dijon. here
But Dijon deserves much more than one day!

Enjoy! :-)

Hi

How about a trip to the Palace of Versailles - take the FORFAIT LOISIRS pass - which includes return train tkt + entry pass to the palace etc.

Check out www.transilien.com. Cost is around 25euros per person.

I agree with all of the above. Happyindijon, nice pictures.

Another thought for you is Angers, France. Less that two hours from Paris via TGV. Leave Paris early in the morning and return early in the evening. The Chateau de Angers is only a few blocks from the train station. Here are some pictures I took.

When setting out on a journey, do not seek advice from those who have never left home.

Don't forget Chartres cathedral - a short daytrip from Paris.

I liked Dijon a lot, and I also liked Versailles. Probably easier to manage to Versailles, but both are worthwhile. You might consider spending one night in Dijon, and if you do, check out the nearby Burgandy wine town of Beaune, which is very quaint.

I definitely recommend Chartres. Cute town and the cathedral is amazing and perfect! But if you are not into churches the best daytrip from Paris is Versailles.

You can get to Fontainebleu-Avon in about forty minutes from Gare de Lyon. The Castle there was Napoleon's weekend hunting lodge and is extremely impressive. Nice little town with some excellent little reataurants.
