Bonjour tout les mondes!

I am a student who will be studying abroad in Reims, France beginning in January. There are a few things that I have been trying to research and it would be very helpful if anyone could give me some first hand knowledge on any of the topics! This will be the first time my university is exchanging with RMS (Reims Management School) so I have nobody to talk to for advice on topics outside of the university. I have saved up for a while so I am not broke but I don't have a lot of money, either. So if anyone could tell me anything on some of these topics I would be very grateful. I will be staying for about 5 months.

A bike--I want to get one since I'm living 20-30 min walk from downtown and about an hour to school (I will usually take the bus to school)
Bus--are there any discount passes I can buy?
Restaurants--any good restaurants? any cheap restaurants or food stores?
Things to do for fun?
Any cool churches?
Random/Important things I should probably know?
Events, festivals ect.

Whatever you have it will probably help me out

Merci!

I think you have to wait until you get there to find out about bus discounts (see if there is a local student discount card) and bikes. If it's an exchange program, there should be some sort of information for arriving foreign students. And to find out about fun or cool things to do, ask the students in your classes. The cheapest restaurants are the university ones (RU or RestoU, depending on the place), but you will have to find out whether or not you have access to it if you are in a management school rather than the university. Cheap food stores include: Leader Price, Netto, Lidl, Aldi, but also street markets for fruit and vegetables are often cheaper than supermarkets.

For events and festivals, go to the local tourist office -- they will have brochures and information.

But generally, your best resource will be other students.

good luck, and by the way, it's "tout le monde".

zachmilburn: You definitely need to study some more French! :-) It's "tout le monde" (singular, not plural). Anyway, have a good stay in the town of many famous Cognac (brandy) producing companies. The tourist information office has its own website , browse it, you'll find a few things there. As for churches (I hope for cultural needs...): The cathedral of Notre-Dame or la Basilique St.-Rémy. Entering "Reims" into any search engine such as Ixquick will give you many more hints on what to do do and what to know.

And don't forget that Paris is just 45 minutes away by TGV.

Thanks everyone! tout LE monde my bad as you can see in the title I am pretty clueless but I hope to learn while I'm there. And thanks for the links to the tourist sites and the restaurant suggestions! The cathedral looks great but I think it would be cool to actually go to a church there too hope there's nothing wrong with that

Nothing wrong with that. The cathedral is+ a church, of course, so you can go to service there if you're a catholic or do not mind attending a catholic mass. There should be churches for other denominations too - like this one for example.

And this is the town's official website.
