Hello,

In June my wife and I will be travelling from Bayonne to Aix en Provence/Avignon area for 10 days aprox. We have seen the map and have the following route:

  • Bayonne
  • Lourdes
  • Toulouse
  • Carcassone
  • Agde
  • Sete
  • Montpellier
  • Nimes
  • Arles
  • Saint Marie de la Mer
  • Aix en provence
  • Les Alpilles -Baux de Provence
  • Avignon
  • Gordes - Les luberons
  • Mont Ventoux and small villages nearby.

What do you consider is missing or what can we avoid from this list for an authentic trip?

Thank you!

What do you mean by "authentic"? It's all authentic.

However, a mixture of 15 cities and small villages/picturesque areas in 10 days means you won't have time to get out of the car and walk around in any of them. Are there any specific reasons that you have chosen these places? If not, get rid of some, like Lourdes if you are not a devout Catholic, etc.

If you are going to try and do all that in 10 days,I'd go to Lourdes at the end...you will need it ;-)

So you are just going to hop in the car in Bayonne and make a beeline for Mont Ventoux (and neighboring villages) through all of these places? When will you eat?

We are travelling around France at least once a year. In June I will travel to Provence for 2 weeks staying in 6 cities from one night till one week and I will enjoy everything. When I see your itenerary I not only wonder where will you eat but also will you sleep somewhere?

In response to #2

A busy and extremely commercialized place at the end?

I was thinking more of the spiritual healing ;-)

I understand these are many places. But we are not planning to visit all. This is only the route we would take by car.

The question is which places do you consider worth staying and visiting and which are not. I also might be missing some that are better than the ones mentioned.

I believe we can do 7 or 8 places. What would you recommend?

Thank you!!!

I would suggest you drive from Bayonne to Carcassone for one night - worth visiting. You could drive and stay overnight either in Agde or in Sete and afterwards either Montpellier or Nimes. Then going to Aix-en-Provence and afterwards Avignon. You can always make tours from these destinations, when there is enough time...
Is there a reason why you start from Bayonne?
Always keep in mind: sometimes less is better than more...

Which ones are 'worth the stop' depends on many things..not least your interests, which we don't know.As well as what is logistically possible and enjoyable (driving all day for an hour or two in a place is not a good way to travel for me)

Based on MY interests...I quite like Bayonne.Carcasonne is very interesting too.Nimes, and Avignon. That is already over what I would attempt in 10 days, considering you will be driving plenty of hours too...

The others I don't know well enough to say.....
