I really fancy going back to Bayeux [last visited 20 years ago] for a 3-4 day visit.
I'm leaving from London and don't have a car.

1] What's the cheapest way of travelling there.

2] Any really cheap [but not bed-buggy] places to stay while there?

I'm not limited to weekend travel as I'm now retired [Yippee!]

...Family Home hostel in Bayeux is cheap but a tad eccentric...

Fun fares for London-Portsmouth on
National Express coaches can be as low as £1. You can also take a train from London to Portsmouth. Take a ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. Take a train from Caen to Bayeux.

Alternatively, take the Eurostar to Paris and then continue by train to Bayeux.

Many thanks, Jack and Tim.

Family Home hostel certainly seems to provoke strong feelings - from "marvellous" to "disgusting" - in all the reviews I've read. Sounds like my kind of place then.

Any tips for how to book as a ferry FOOT PASSENGER? Or how to find out the price for this? Every time I go onto the site it asks me for the length of my vehicle and I can't find a simple walk-on/off anywhere.

On the booking page, even though you won't be driving, under 1b enter an age for passenger 1 (driver). That's you! Then under 1c choose "no vehicle."
