Hey Jean!

Just checking how you went with your trip? We also have around 10 nights in Provence, and am considering splitting the stay into two bases?

Did you end up sleeping in St Remy for your entire stay? Were there days of too-long a drives, e.g. 2 hours+?

Or did you find a second location?

Thanks,

Will

In the end, we went with 2 bases - Graveson and Oppede. In retrospective, I think it was the right choice.

From Graveson, we visited Saint-Remy, Avignon, L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Pont Du Gard, Uzes, Tarascon

From Oppede, we visited Gordes, Le Colorado Provencal, Oppede le Vieux, Lacoste, Bonnieux, and Lourmarin

You can see the photos here - GPS info is embedded in most, if not all, photos

HI Jean!
I wanted to thank you for posting this question - it is very similar to a question I have!! (Which I will probably post anyway because the people on this forum are so amazing!) but before I do I would love to get your feedback on St-Remy. I have seen both in this thread and other places really mixed reviews of St Remy (quaint v too touristy etc) and so just wanted to see how it seemed to you? Did you go to the market there? I'm also trying to figure out the order of my trip and which markets are musts and which should be misses! We were also thinking of basing half of our trip there (to see the same places as you!) and had not come across Gravesen in my research - but am definitely going to look into that now!
Thanks,
Lois

Hi Lois,

Ironically, both reviews of St. Remy are right. It just depends on the number of tourists.
We saw both - and, ironically, it happened even on the same day. It was touristy, and after a few drops of rain the town became quite quaint ;-)
Certainly worth a visit if you ask me.
We didn't go to the marked there (or elsewhere), so I can't comment on these.
There was a nice little luna-park in St. Remy, and our daughter has enjoyed it immensely.
As for Graveson - it's not too special and I wouldn't have chosen it based on its attractiveness. My idea was to reduce the driving times as much as possible (more time to sightsee), plus - being the sole driver - I'm not a fan of driving. I chose it by mapping out our points of interest in Google Earth, then looking on that booking site for a good price in the area that was close to the main concentration of attractions. That's where Graveson popped up - it's close to everything - exactly in the center of everything we wanted to see, the prices are better than in larger towns, plus there are no parking issues there. We stayed at "Le Mas Ferrand", and I can highly recommend the place - the place offers huge apartments (just IIRC) with the largest garden we ever stayed at in a private home, with great breakfasts and very friendly and knowledgeable host (and the latter is a huge compliment, since usually we don't care about the hosts and prefer to be left alone).

Just recently I've finished going over and processing the photos from this trip.
Feel free to take a look - most of them are geo-tagged, so you can see where they were made:

You'll be able to find photos of St. Remy, Graveson and quite a few other places there.

Enjoy your trip!
-Jean
