Hi,

My family of 4 will be travelling from Hallstatt to vienna in early Nov. Travelling by OBB train will cost 47.5 euro per person. I'm thinking of doing the journey by combining OBB for Hallstatt to Attnang Puchheim and from Attnang to Vienna by using westbahn. The combination fare is only 31.3 euro per person.
My questions are :
1. Is the westbahn train using the same railway station as OBB trains and does the train stops at specific platform? Is it easy to change platform from OBB train to…

Hey all,

We are heading to Linz from Vienna in a few days time. I was wondering if anyone knows anyway to get cheap train tickets??? (or any buslines that do the trip?)

I have tried through the OBB website which is 32 euros each - seems a little bit much for such a short journey.

Any help or ideas is appreciated.
Cheers

Elijah

I would like to know whether there is web page to show the austria rail network like following:
http://vonatinfo.mav-start.hu/

the function: when you click the point, it will show the route of the rail.

gonna be hohe tauern for 7 days first week of june. wife is gonna be 6mos pregnant but we are both experienced hikers and looking forward to some good day hikes.

  • suggestions on accomadation in the national park? an inexpensive farm stay would be great. a hut or two would also be nice, but i've read that they won't be open at that time.

-suggestoins on day hikes?

i've had trouble looking this stuff up and right now i'm leaning toward staying in either Lienz or Heiligenblut as a base.

Would the best way first be by direct train to Lienz then by bus to Kals am Grossglockner? Are there buses running at the end of May?

And onwards to Salzburg is with a change in Kitzbuhel, also running end of May?

Cheers.

My boyfriend and I are planning on doing a portion of the Berliner Hohenweg (pasted below) in July. Has anyone done this route before? Just how challenging is it and are the timings below accurate? I'm also wondering if it's recommended to make reservations at the huts in advance. Can you just show up? Any advice or links you can share would be much appreciated. Also keep in mind that we don't know German...

I tried to use my ATM at 3 different machines in Vienna and kept getting" system error". When I called HSBC they said their cards don't work in Austria, Ukraine and Brazil. Vienna is a huge tourist town and this sounds crazy. I have a Wells Fargo card and it works fine but their fees are too high. Anyone heard of this or am I getting the runaround from HSBC?

Hi

My family of 4 will be in Vienna early Nov and I'm planning to do a day trip to Durnstein. We won't be visiting Melk as my husband and I had been in 2006 via the train and boat combo. We had always regretted not stopping at Durnstein at that time, hence the wish to do so this time.

This visit will be with our 15 year old twins { a first visit for them to Europe, we are from Asia}, they would enjoy cycling, so I'm thinking of renting bikes to cycle to Durnstein and back from Krems. Will…

Hello guys,

I'm going to stay in Hallstatt for 3 days and planning to go to St Wolfgang/ Gosausee/ Bad Ischl.

For Gosausee, how's the waters in May? I heard from others the water level is low that I wont see the beautiful side of the lake.

For St Wolfgang, I may take the famous train, but it's quite expensive.

For Bad Ischl I may go for a half day trip.

Can you guys please give me some advice?
