I have read in some travel websites that the train stations in Vienna are due for major construction works about now, and that Sudbahnhof in particular will be closed and the trains that normally arrive there would be diverted to other stations. Is this in fact happening or going to happen? I am concerned as I plan to be travelling from Bratislava to Vienna in June and had intended to book in a hotel near the station.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi there,
I'll visit Vienna for the first time on 23rd. Feb. It'll be my first trip out of my country as well.
So I would like to plan as detailed as I can before I hit the road.
Here are some questions about Vienna airport, hope somebody can help me out here.
1. Is there a tourist information point or things like that in the airport? Where is it? I would very much like to grab a map before i enter the city.
2. I booked the hostel Ruthensteiner near Westbahnhof. I don't know which is the cheapest…

Can anyone help with the name of a particular umbrella shop in Vienna?

The shop is just north of the Opera House and sells and fancy umbrellas and country clothing - it may be a tailor too. I think its around Augustinerstrasse although I really cannot remember.

Please help - I have lost my Mum's favourite umbrella!

Best April travel destination (based on clear weather)

Which region is best for the month of April (April 10-May1)

1) Switzerland (focusing on hiking, clear mountain views, or blue sky)
2) Austria (focusing on Western Austria, hiking, clear mountain views, or blue sky)\
3) Southeastern Germany (Munich, and the German alps)
4) Brussels (cycling, blue sky)
5) Amsterdam (cycling, blue sky, landscape photography)

Perhaps, a better question is which destination has the least rain in April, or the…

Hi

I just noticed nobody really recommends places to go out at night time in Vienna that are fun or good restos, all the posts just seem to be about how to get somewhere else, go skiing, go to an opera or the Spanish Riding school.

Has anyone on this seen a different side to Vienna, anyone know cool pubs to go to, the best place to eat a Wienner Schnitzel, Wienner sasauage, or does everyone just go there see an Opera and then do nothing as its expensive?

Hi! We have a 8 hour stop over in Vienna on our trip from the UK to China - anyone know if we can leave the airport in this time and what the rules are about the transit visas (i.e. do we need one?). Austrian airlines are unsure of the rules and regulaions and I haven't had a reply from the embassey yet.

Thanks!!

Hi Everyone,

I know that Vienna is an expensive city and I have found two ways to get a cheaper stay there that I would like to share.

Luups and Snipcard both have discounts to many things in the city that makes it more affordable.

Just thought I would share the knowledge.

I'm thinking of a short stay {one or two days} in Innsbruck on my way to Italy next august.
Any suggestions of what to do, or where to go?

Hello and thanks in advance for any advice.

I will be visiting Western Austria (exact locations to be determined) in early March. I want to ski as much as possible and have my choice of good pubs to hang out at in the evenings/night.
I am an advanced skiier if that helps with suggestions.

I have seen a lot about St. Anton and Innsbruck areas in my research. Any recommendations for those areas OR other areas in the vicinity?
