Hi,
I wanna visit New Zealand. I don't speak English and I don't have a work permit.
Do you think this will work?
LMAO LMAO LMAO
Bjoern & el_gringo_z, you would be amazed how many people immigrate to Australia and New Zealand and refuse to learn a word of English.
That said, Bjoern didn't need to be so rude to the OP - (s)he was not at all opposed to learning German like you implied, just wanted to know how necessary it was. That's not such a stupid question.
And to those paying him/her out for the work permit thing: this question was purely about the language issue. If (s)he already knew about the processes re: getting a work permit, there'd be no reason for him/her to ask about it here, would there??
There are some positions where they require English, German is nice but not needed. Most of my friends here in Vienna including myself have jobs in companies that speak both German and English. The more qualified you are, the less likely you will have to speak German especially in positions where you have no customer contact. Keep and eye on http://www.jobpilot.at/ and visit the website below for some more advice.

LeahMaria, don't you have anything better to do than lecture the regulars here about their posting manners? You seem to think that we should assume this and that before posting - by all means write a book based on those assumptions, just don't expect others to do the same.
Given the number of Ozzies and Kiwis who ask questions here about work in Europe without thinking (or caring) about work permits for a second, the comments made by Bjoern (and others) are completely legitimate. He is also totally right on the language issue - far too many non-European English speakers seem to arrive here thinking the whole world will happily give up speaking their local language to accommodate them. It does not work that way - see post #7. If you are serious about finding a job in Austria, you should start learning German today, or better, yesterday. All assuming you have the right documents to work, of course.
Why are we discussing this, by the way? This thread dates from October.
