Hi all,

I'm looking at travelling from the UK to Austria in March for a city break. I am a non-skier but still want somewhere that will be guaranteed snow and plenty of things to do for the non skier. Somewhere like Salzburg or Innsbruck, or somewhere smaller like Zell am See perhaps?
Anyway, any ideas gratefully received!

Many thanks,
John

More likelihood of snow at Innsbruck or Zell am See I would have thought...but Salzburg would have the most "things to do" in the city itself and environs...but these are all good locations so it really depends on what your interests are...

I think in March there is no guaranteed snow in any Austrian city, usually is already too warm and if it snows it will probably turn into mud. In Innsbruck though you have the mountais right next to you and they have snow for sure and you can access them from the city via a cable car. In Salzburg the mountains are further away. Zell am See is a nice place if you are into winter sport but it might be too small to call it a city. If you go to Zell am See and have a car you should also go and visit Kitzbuhel, a famous ski resort with a nice center. The chances are high that you have snow there and there are loads of cafes and restaurant to enjoy the warm march sun and the winter landscape. Have a good time there!

Hi John, in March it really can be sunny in Innsbruck and as the other posts tell the mountains around Innsbruck are worth to see. What about to visit the mountains by cable car or having a trip to Seefeld near Innsbruck? There you'll have plenty of snow. So don't forget to bring warm clothes :)

There's probably a bit more to do in Salzburg, but the advantage to Innsbruck is its easy to get to, the city can be out of the snow in March but the new tram and cable from almost the center the town gets to the snow in about 20 minutes, no car needed. Some quite fascinating things to see in Innsbruck, the bronze kings and queens at the Hofkirch are quite something.
