Can anybody tell me which is the best way to go from Vienna to Salzburg?
I have find a train for 47,5 euro but I think it is a lot. Do you know if there is any kind of discount buying in advance or something like this?
Can it be done by bus?
Thank very much in advance

Find yourself at least one other traveller on a budget and use the Einfach-Raus-Ticket. It will take you 6 hours and 2 changes instead of 4 hours and no change, but the price cannot be beaten.
The Einfach-Raus-Ticket works similar to the Happy-Weekend-Ticket in Germany. It is valid for a whole day on local trains, costs 28 EUR and 2-5 people can use it. So if you are 3 people it will be 9,33 EUR per person. You cannot travel on this ticket alone, you need a group of people. And you can use it everyday, not just on weekends.
Go to http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/dn? and select "Verkehrsmittel: Einfach-Raus-Ticket" to see the connections.

One more thought: If you book in advance you might find tickets for Vienna-Munich for 39 EUR and most of the trains that go to Munich go via Salzburg.

Thank you very much t_maia.
I think it will not be easy to find someone to travel with but well if somebody reads this, I'm travelling from Vienna to Salzburg on September 6th, so if you want we can travel together and save some money. I would like to leave Vienna around 4-6 pm.
The other option you give me is to buy a ticket to Munich, which is cheaper than going to Salzburg, and then take off the train in Salzburg, am I correct?

It can be cheaper to book a ticket to munich! There are limited, reduced tickets for international travel - but you have to book early: Sparschiene

If you're thinking of using the Einfach-Raus ticket then this may be a little late in the day to start as you're restricted to local/regional trains with this fare...

Correct...the Sparschiene ticket as mentioned above...purchase for Munich and get off at Salzburg...

Thank you very much.

Not the cheapest way but I can save up to 18 euros. From 47 to 29.

I find early pricing on Bahn.de and Oebb.at 29 euro sounds the best I've ever done. I took salzbug to vienna in May. I sold my flat in Salzburg end of August but I have 2 new electra townie 8 bikes to sell there. Any ideas?
