I will be staying outside the city. Is it easy/inexpensive to park in the city?

Some years ago I paid € 7 for one hour. Up to you if that´s expensive. At least it was easy.

In most areas of the inner districts you have to pay 2 euro per hour for parking on the streets at weekdays and the parking time is limited to two hours, from 1st october changed to three hours. If you want to park for a longer time you have to choose a garage wich will turn out more expensive.

My recommendation, use the excellent public transport system.

Hello!
The cheapest way for parking in the city of Vienna is to use the "Park and Ride": http://www.parkandride.at/ - So you pay only 3 € for one day. All "Park and Ride" Stations are near an underground station - so you can easily go to the city center

You can park on my street Illekgasse during July and August for free and walk up to the U3 station Johngasse. There are always spaces.

Depends on your frame of reference.
If you're used to New York City, London or Paris, you'll find Viennese parking to be similar, perhaps easier and cheaper.
If you're used to Denver, Dallas or Omaha, you will desperately want to wake up from the screeching, multi-level nightmare pounding your temples to shreds.

inside the "Guertel" its 2 euro per hour, you have to buy tickets at any "tabak trafik" where you get cigarettes as well, outside the guertel there are only few places where you need those tickets called "PARKSCHEINE" in german.
pasrkhouses cost more, the "PARKSCHEIN situation is from 8 or 9am until 8 ,9 or 10pm, night is free for parking
better stay outside and use the subway into the city

you can park in 13th or 23rd district, where parking is free (not on a signposted shopping street) for any number of days and take the public transport from there.
