I am currently in Mostar, BiH and am making my way towards Lutzmannsburg, where I have a reservation on the 24th. I am planning to take a train from Sarajevo to Vienna (via Zagreb) that arrives on the 23rd, and then spend a night near the station in Vienna before heading out to Lutzmannsburg. My guidebook is for Eastern Europe so I don't have any info on this leg of the trip! Two questions:

  1. Is there a hostel near Vienna Meidling? If not, any suggestions for a place to stay that will make an early connection easier? I would like to depart for Lutzmannsburg on a 7.00 am train.
  2. The OBB website is a bit frustrating. ACHTUNG everywhere! I think I can take a train to Mattersburg and then walk to the bus station, where I take a bus to Oberpullendorf and then transfer to a bus for Lutzmannsburg. But the connection time in Oberpullendorf is two minutes. If it is the same bus company is it likely they could ensure I made the connection (within reason, of course)? Or, if I missed the bus, would there be a taxi that would take me from Oberpullendorf to Lutzmannsburg?

Thanks so much! Everything would be much easier if my last name was London or Paris or something!

Hello!
Do you really have to take the train at 7:00 am? Because there are bus connections with only one change. In the afternoon there is also a direct connection. The buses are leaving from the Vienna Südtiroler Platz (bus terminal) It is always the same bus company (ÖBB Postbus). From Deutschkreuz for example you can also go by taxi. If there is also a taxi from Oberpullendorf I don’t know.

For detailed information you can also contact the tourist office in Lutzmannsburg:

Was it nice to pass close to Lutzmannsburg on July 23rd and to backtrack all the way from Vienna on July 24th?

Are you stalking me?

It wasn't bad, actually. I was traveling tech-free and had no way to access maps or timetables from the train. If I had I might have got off in Mattersburg and looked for a place to sleep there, but I actually had a nice sleep in Vienna and met some cool people in the hostel. Could have been worse!

I think we discussed the whole thing in detail last February.
But don't worry, if you enjoy your trip, everyth9ng is fine.
