I assume you are a smart guy and you have already researched the prices for the train or flights, that's the easy part. Please tell us, in your own research, how much does the train cost verses flying? You could try THIS too.

During this period, all flights are horribly expensive.
You may try:
http://www.airberlin.com/
http://www.transavia.com/ (from Kobenhavn)
http://www.airbaltic.com/ to Munich or Vienna (via Riga).
Be aware that the one way train/bus ticket from Vienna airport to Feldkirchen bei Mattighofen costs 48 euro. From Munich airport it's 44 euro. For this latter itinerary, you may find discounted tickets (29 euro one way) in the net: https://ticket.oebb.at
For the flight back, you may also consider to use http://www.bookryanair.com/ via London Stansted (Salzburg dp 10.05 - Goteborg ar 20.55).

There are a number of non-direct flights options you may consider.

Or a flight from Copenhagen to Salzburg or Munich.

From Munich Airport (MUC) you could travel on regional trains to Salzburg Hbf on a Bavaria Ticket for EUR 20,00.
DB timetable
From: MUC
To: Salzburg
and select as means of transport "only local transport". You can buy the Bavaria Ticket on spot from ticket machines.

For Salzburg to Feldkirchen bei Mattighofen the SVV tariff applies. Single ticket for the direct route is EUR 6,50.
Butyou really should check if this is the correct Feldkirchen, as there are more than one in the more or less wider area.

Volvo often hire out their cars to work experience students at silly prices to get mileage on them whilst they test prototype parts. Great if you work there, bad if you don't.

You could try all of the various hire car co's - avis, hertz, europcar etc etc, see if they'll strike you a deal for a fuel efficient car for a week with unlimited mileage, then figure out how much fuel will cost. A friend of mine did exactly what you're proposing back when I lived there in 2000 - a 4 day weekend came up, he hired a car for the equivalent of 550 SEK and hoofed it down to Salzburg. It took him a rather alarming 14 hours to get there, and an even more alarming 12 hours to get back. Alarming because it's 1,430 km and he averaged 100km/hr going down, including a 40km ferry ride to cut the corner across into Denmark. I dunno what he was doing on the german autobahns, but it wouldn't have been slow....

Try www.eurolines.com if you're not in much of a hurry and feeling a bit masochistic.
