Me and my 3 friends are looking to travel from Toronto to St Anton for a week in March next year. Looking for a good snowboard trip, thinking about staying in a hostel when we get there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm not sure if there's a hostel at St Anton. You could try sending an e-mail to the local tourist office and ask them. Check the website.

You'd probably need to do some careful price comparisons to find the next-best option for price. An apartment for 4 is a possibility but to get the real saving you might need to do your own cooking as well. Other than that, find an inexpensive no-frills room(s). There are a lot of budget level skiers/snowboarders in St Anton so it's manageable, cost-wise.

May be you have a look at the villages around St. Anton too:

There are a few 'satellite' villages around St Anton proper, particularly Nasserein and St Jacob, which may have cheaper accommodation, but which are also connected to the St Anton lift stations with free shuttle buses all day. The St Anton tourist office will have listings for these 'villages' as well.

Nasserein has its own gondola lift to the Gampen/Kappell area.

Hi Alexander, the Arlberg area is not cheap but skiing is excellent (what I have heard from friends, I haven't been there). On my last trip to Austria I have booked two hotels on www.travelxalps.com/en/ - that's where I have found the cheapest prices for accomodations in Vienna and Innsbruck. They have a lot of specials so you should check at least once a week to see how the prices change.

Hey guys,

I'm one of the three friends, and I just wanted to bump this post to the top. Some specific questions:
Has anyone stayed at any of the Hostels in the St Anton area and have any tips?
The main reason we're looking for a hostel is that it's more conducive to being social and meeting people then to rent an apartment, etc.

Also, flying in to Munich vs Zurich, can we just do whatever is cheapest flight wise? We're thinking it would be best to then rent a car since there are 4 of us.

The trip is 50% party, 50% ski.

Cheers, and thanks for the advice!

Are there hostels in St Anton? But, don't worry if you have to go with an apartment. Socializing and meeting people is easy enough at the many apres ski venues on and off the pistes.

Zurich and Munich are both about the same distance from St Anton - Zurich might even be a bit closer in terms of train travel times. So there is no big advantage of one over the other as far as onward travel is concerned. I'd go with the cheapest flight.

I can't advise on renting a car. You'll just have to check train tickets against cost of car rentals. Take account of the fact that a car is useless/not necessary once you're in St Anton.

Standard one way rail fare Zurich airport - St. Anton: 40 EUR/pax
Standard one way rail fare Munich airport - St. Anton: 52 EUR/pax
Reduced one way rail fare Munich airport - St. Anton: 19 EUR/pax

If you don't care travel with slow trains, you may check the Bayern ticket (28 EUR for 5 persons) for the German leg and the Einfach-raus-ticket for the Austrain leg (28 EUR for 5 persons too).
