Accomodation St.Anton

Not easy to predict room availability. Even in low season (January) finding a room on arrival can be a grim endeavour - depends partly on snow conditions, etc. You have to keep in mind that ski holiday bookings are typically for a week -- weekend to weekend -- so arriving midweek will not necessarily make it easier. The place I stay at every year is already booked out for much of the season. On the other hand, if you want to stay for only a couple of days then arriving mid or late week will help, so long as there is a vacancy somewhere.

There are free shuttle buses, so the car can be left in the pension's parking space. If "cheap" is a priority, then finding something in the center isn't the best option. Anyway, with the shuttle buses and generally the small size of St Anton, I wouldn't worry too much about being central. A place to the west of center (Moos or Oberdorf) or to the east in the villages of Nasserein or St Jacob will likely have cheaper places to stay. Even St Jacob is only about 4 km away.

If it was up to me (not a gambling person) I'd at least check with the St Anton tourist office http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/winter some weeks in advance and see what room availability is like. Maybe do it now, just to know what you're in for. I don't know how comprehensive their site is, but you'll at least get an idea of what to expect.

One other detail .. you didn't say what "cheap" means in real currency. There is "cheap" and there is "cheapest possible for St Anton".
