IHi everyone

I'm moving to Vienna in September to work as a Language Assistant in a school there for 5 months. I'm currently struggling to find somewhere to live, so wondered if anyone had any tips on where to look? I'm looking to ideally rent a room in a flat/house not too far from the Landstrasse area (where I'll be working) and have budgeted 500-600 euros/month for this - I've heard Vienna's expensive, so just wondered whether this seemed reasonable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :-)

Generally, you can expect to pay this amount for a 50-60 square meter apartment. Vienna is expensive, but not sure how it compares to where you are coming from as you don't mention that. Compared to London, for example, Vienna is a bargain.

In addition to the website mentioned above, check out www.virtualvienna.net, a site for expats in Vienna.

Short term apartments are hard to come by unless you sublet. If you insist on signing a contract directly with the landlord, the term will be from 1-3 years with a hefty comission to the agent and significant deposit to the landlord. Securing an apartment here can be challenging for many reasons.

You might want to check out www.willhaben.at, kind of like an Austrian Craigslist. They have a large "immobilien" (real estate) section which contains apartments to sublet for shorter periods.

Shouldn't your school also help you out?

Thanks very much for all the suggestions! The school are not much help unfortunately, but this looks like a good list to be getting on with. I tried a few on airbnb but received very few replies which was disappointing....my only previous living experience is London and Oxford, so nice to hear that Vienna will be cheaper!!
