Good day Gurls n Boys :-)

My wife (31) and I (33) are planning to taking a week long break from Dubai to visit Austria during the 1st week of July. I have been researching everything about the beautiful country. I know there are heaps of people in here who have traveled to Austria and we would be really grateful if someone could help us with following questions we have been thinking about:

1) 1 week good enough or what is the advisable days to spend in Austria?
2) How many days in each place do you recommend?
3) Hows the climate in July. We are coming from a place that's at the peak of summer - 50 Degrees!!!!
4) What are some of the attractions and "things to do" activities that must not be missed.

if you have any other suggestions, please let us know.

Thank you for your time and help.

Take care

Joe

Hi *Joboi - and welcome to Thorn Tree ! !

This is a little sparse on the ground - as you mention nothing about your likes and dislikes.
Everyone has different opinions on Austria - and mine are no exception.
I just adore the Austrian countryside in the summer, especially The Tyrol.
The beautiful houses, open planned gardens, lovely flower boxes, all make for wonderful walking.
Austria, in any season, is a photographers paradise - too.
Innsbruck and Salzburg are lovely for the day.
On the other hand, I have no time for Vienna - at all. I just don't like it. So I'll leave that bit right there.
I'm sure you're aware, that Austria is a landlocked country surrounded by many others, 8 - in fact.
Each one is easy to get to - for a day trip.
As well as those, there are also many miles of River Danube, which is the world's most cultural river.
It winds through 10 countries and four capital cities.
Public transport (both train and bus) is very good, if a little pricey in places.
I would suggest rent-a-car for a couple of days. You can do so much in Austria with a car, for 48 hours.
There are just a few ideas from me.
Hope you have a great trip ! !

Agree with #1.

1 week good enough or what is the advisable days to spend in Austria?
Irrelevant, IMO. How much time do you have? You can spend as much time here as you want. If you have less time, there's no problem, there's no advisable amount but how much time would probably make a difference as to how many places you visit.

How many days in each place do you recommend?
and
What are some of the attractions and "things to do" activities that must not be missed
Again, depends on your interests and where exactly you';re going.

Start by reading a guidebook, like LP Austria. And please search past threads.

Good luck.

Hey Battybilly,

Thanks for your reply.

Likes - scenic places, experience the culture, good food , evening walk around the country side, have some amazing beer and some good bar food, cruise around the river- in short a very relaxed and calm break.

Dislikes - Crowded touristy locales, city traffic and locales with limited transportation facilities.

Thank you once again. :-)

Hi Ansh,

Thanks for your reply.

I am planning on a 8 day trip to Austria. So would like to see the best places in the amount of time. At the same time, dont want to make it too busy hopping from one place to another.

Thanks for your help :-)

Hello!
As you have only 8 days in Austria I would recommend you to visit Vienna (3 days), Salzburg (2 days) and the lake region (lake Wolfgang, Bad Ischl, lake Traunsee) for 3 days
Best regards

Crowded touristy locales, city traffic

Doubt that would warrant 3 days in Vienna - then.
Plenty of both, day and night ! !

Vienna is a good city but yes, it can indeed be crowded and touristy.

So would like to see the best places in the amount of time
Best is relative. In your case, I'd suggest Salzburg- I found it less crowded than Vienna- you might want to use it as a base for places around as well- such as the aforementioned Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee) or even Mondsee.

If you want to see Vienna, 2 days should be enough in my opinion.
Tourist crowds are everywhere at the most beautiful, touristy places. So Salzburg is also touristy, but really beautiful and it's definitely a good place as base to explore the region around.
The Lake Wolfgang is not far away from Salzburg, and there you can enjoy a lot of the things you wanted to experience in Austria: scenic places, evening walks around the lake, boat cruises, and so on.
In summer, there's the "Sommernacht" (= Summernight) in St. Wolfgang, which is very popular for people in the region. It`s on Monday, 9th of July, 6:30pm-midnight. There are some live bands playing, there's plenty of local food to taste, beer to drink... I'm sure you'd enjoy it, but - because it's so popular - it could be crowded too. It's only worth visit the "Sommernacht" if the weather is good. (http://www.wolfgangsee.at/en/2-08-0-1528346/veranstaltungs-highlights.html)
