A-Hoy There!

Hi All,

I'm going to be visiting Orkney at the beginning of May and will be staying on Mainland - we're hoping to visit Hoy and wanted to get some advice on getting around it. I'd prefer not to take the car over if I can help it and am planning to use the Stromness ferry. Is there a shuttle bus from there to Rackwick? We're planning on hiking to the Old Man of Hoy and I'm given to understand that the walk from where the ferry lands in Moaness is recommended, I just fancied getting a bus back…

Hi,

I was thinking about starting in the UK, while I wait for a passport to arrive.
The plan was to drive and stop anywhere for any length of time.
At the moment, I have a rough plan and open to any new ideas and changes. The rough plan is to start in England, Wales, England to get the car ferry to Ireland, from Northern Ireland to go to Scotland then back to England.
I don't have any idea on a start or end date. I was thinking about maybe starting the middle to end of April with no set end date…

I'd like to begin by thanking those who helped on the forum while getting this far in planning for my wife and self. I've been working this eight day Kent drive schedule repeatedly for a full season and nearing the end with this the last bit.

A few caveats :a) I know roads aren't fast , having driven 25,000+ UK miles over a lifetime including seven extensive visits with relatively few on major highways b)equally fully aware jet lag's a problem for many, but hasn't been for me in many hops…

I've lived in London for nearly 50 years now.But there's always new places to discover. This morning I found THIS delightful site, which lists places I've never heard of - https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/london-museums/
Even better, many of them are FREE. Like, for example,

The Library and Museum of Freemasonry ...................... Free ....
An impressive library and sizeable museum housed within the main headquarters of the Freemasons in England. Contrary to their secretive reputation, the

Hi,

I am on a short official trip to London and have a weekend to explore places. I am planning to visit Edinburgh and checked rail & flight options but it looked bit costly and also I won't have much time to spend in Edinburgh.

So, planning to hire a car from London so that I can drive down to Edinburgh. I am looking for advise on the route and sightseeing options. I can start as early as 5 AM on Saturday or even earlier if required and can reach Edinburgh late evening exploring some sights…

Hello! I’m flying into Dublin arriving on Monday 4/9. Meeting friends five days later in Shannon to begin an 8 day tour of Southern Ireland which ends in Dublin. I’m thinking about taking the train from Dublin to Galway upon my arrival, then rent a car in Galway making it my base and take day trips from there. Or, should I stay 2 nights in Galway and 2 nights somewhere else? I plan to drive to Shannon on Friday and return the rental car before starting the tour. Any recommendations for lodging…

Hi,

I will be in Edinburgh late June. The cruise will drop us off at Queensbury.

I'd like to take public transport to go from the cruise port at South Queensferry to Edinburgh, and take other buses to visit the Old Town and New Town. I think I have to take the Lothian bus from the port. However, I am not sure where to catch this bus and where will it drop us off. In addition, I'd like to know if I can use the Lothian bus to explore Edinburgh ?

Can I go by train ?

Please give me advices.

Hello,

Do you happen to know know how long would one have to wait in line in order to board the London eye outside "rush hour" (which I understand is between 12:00-15:00)? I'm specifically talking about a Sunday evening- will it be worthwhile to buy the fast track tickets for that time?

Thank you!

We had a ticket booked with Emirates Newquay/London/Dubai/Delhi all booked on one ticket, the first leg was cancelled due to bad weather so we drove to London, Emirates allowed us to board the flight from London on the same tickets but on our return wanted us to pay a cancellation or no show fee for not flying back to Newquay, our car was in London so needed to terminate the flight from where we boarded,we feel Emirates are being unfair asking for a fee as they didn't mention it when boarding…

Dublin is definitely one of the friendliest cities that we have visited and there are several things that you should do if you decide to visit. There are certainly more than five things to do in Dublin, but these were some of the ones that we found particularly interesting. As with most places that we visit, one key is not to put yourself on a tight schedule. If you take the time to sit and talk to the locals, you will enjoy the experience even more. In fact, there is even a tour company that is…
